Doug Corvin, son of the Rev. Dr. W. R. Corvin, died Friday, November 5, 2010

Judy Williams, World Missions Ministries Senior Financial Specialist at the GMC (Global Ministry Center) in Bethany, OK, sent the following news story on Saturday morning to Hugh's News:

"I received a call last night from Nita Twyman the sister of Doug Corvin; she wanted me to let everyone at GMC and at SWCU know about the unexpected death of her brother yesterday, Friday, November 5, 2010. I do not at this time have any details. As funeral arrangements are made I will let everyone know. Doug is the son or former SWCU President Dr. W. R. Corvin. Please pray for his wife Nancy and family."

[Editor's Note: I have tried in vain to get more information concerning the death of Doug Corvin from friends of mine in Oklahoma City to no avail. I have met Doug Corvin and talked with him over the years. His father, the Rev. Dr. W. R. Corvin, is a former president of Southwestern College, now called Southwestern Christian University. His brother, the Rev. Dr. R. O. Corvin was the founder and first president of this great institution of Christian higher education. He was a boyhood friend of Oral Roberts. Together they started Oral Roberts University.

In the providence of God I became the third president of Southwestern Colllege in 1975. I resigned my regular commission as an Air Force chaplain to go there. I am so grateful to God for allowing me that great honor and privilege to serve our church, and the students, faculty and staff of this wonderful university. I thank God often for the many friends we met and are now lasting friends out in the west. We praise God, too, for the new president, Dr. Ed Huckeby.

Let us remember the Corvin family in our prayers in their time of grief.]
