The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremonies for the new Navy Chaplaincy School and Center at Fort Jackson, SC, was held on Thursday, May 6, 2010.
Rear Admiral (Upper Half) Robert Burt was present to help dedicate their new facility alongside the Air Force Chaplain Corps College, and the Army Chaplain Center and School at Fort Jackson, SC.
Chaplain Robert Burt is a Pentecostal and is an ordained minister of the Open Bible Standard Churches. He is a native of Springfield, Oregon. He is the 24th Chief of Navy Chaplains. He holds the Bachelor of Science degree from Eugene Bible College, and a Master of Divinity degree from Western Evangelical Seminary, Portland, Oregon.
Chaplain Burt enlisted in the Navy in 1970 and served three years as a Communications Technician and three and a half years aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63), as a Data Processor. He was honorably discharged in 1977 to enter the ministry, and later was ordained by the Open Bible Standard Churches.
Chaplain Burt entered the military chaplaincy and was endorsed by the National Association of Evangelicals. After receiving his commission, Chaplain Burt served aboard the USS Arkansas (CGN 41), USS Kansas City (AOR 3), and the USS Nimitz (CNN 68). He became the Regimental Chaplain with the 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force, Camp Pendleton, CA. Chaplain Burt completed six deployments to the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and the North Persian Gulf.
Ashore, Chaplain Burt served on staffs at Roosevelt Roads Naval Hospital, Puerto Rico; Naval Training Station, San Diego, CA; Recruiting Area Eight, Oakland, CA; Submarine Base Bangor, Silverdale, WA; Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, IL; Navy Personnel Command, Millington, TN, and as the Chaplain Corps Senior Assignment/Placement officer and Fleet Chaplain for Commander, Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, HI. Upon selection to flag in 2003, Chaplain Burt served as the Deputy Chief of Navy Chaplains/Chaplain of the Marine Corps before appointment as the 24th Chief of Navy Chaplains in 2006.
