Holmes Bible College is in need of your financial and prayer support Will you receive the Benediction? Stand by for Today's News . . .Scripture reading for today is written in Matthew 15:30-31Matthew 15:29-31 29 Jesus now returned to the Sea of Galilee and climbed a hill and sat there. 30 And a vast crowd brought Him their lame, blind, maimed, and those who couldn't speak, and many others, and laid them before Jesus, and He healed them all. 31 What a spectacle it was! Those who hadn't been able to say a word before were talking excitedly, and those with missing arms and legs had new ones; the crippled were walking and jumping around, and those who had been blind were gazing about them! The crowds just marveled, and praised the God of Israel. The Living Bible Editor's commentary on today's Scripture reading recorded in Matthew 15:30-31This is indeed an amazing account of the healing miracles of Jesus Christ. Please notice that it is copied from The Living Bible, a paraphrase of the Bible and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. This Scriptural passage here in Matthew's Gospel was one of Jerry B. Walker's favorite texts in his preaching ministry in crusades and revivals. Mark Bristow, the administrator of Jerry B. Walker's estate, gave me this Bible when I was in Texas recently for a preaching mission in his two churches in Monahans and Odessa respectively: Grace Fellowship Church and Parker Heights Christian Church. In fact, I used this Bible today when I preached at Christian Life Worship Center in Athens, GA. It has Jerry B. Walker's name engraved in gold letters on the cover of the black leather Bible. On the fly leaf Jerry pasted a label with these word, "Protected by Angels." It has the Star of David and an angel in the center of the star. What do you think would happen if we came expecting miralces like this today in our churches? Are we ready for such glorious healings as we find in our Scripture reading for today? Jerry B. would often say, "Are you ready?" Did not the Apostle write in Hebrews 13:7-8, that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever" (NIV)? Oral Roberts often said, "Expect a Miracle every day!" Do you need a miracle in your life? This may be your moment of a visitation from God. In Isaiah 61:2, we read this: "He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of God's favor to them has come." It is a Divine moment. God wants to shower you with His favor -- the Lord's assigned advantage. What does it take to get such a miracle? Faith -- simple faith.Jesus said to the ruler of the synagoge whose daughter had died these words: "Be not afraid, only believe" (Mark 5:36, KJV). In John's Gospel we read these words of our blessed Lord about praying, "that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in My Name, He may give it you" (John 15:16, KJV). The word "whatsoever" is an all-inclusive word. It covers the waterfront. However, those of us who are disciples of Christ will always pray according to God's will. We pray to the Father in the Name of Jesus, and He may give it to you. The word "may" is a polite word for reminding us that God has the final Word on everything. He is Sovereign. Even in our asking or petitions, we submit the answer to our Heavening Father Who knows what is best for each of us. Should God heal you would you tell the story of God's wonderful healing power in your life? In John's prologue to the Gospel of John he writes, "And the Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood" (John 1:14, The Message, Eugene H. Peterson). Could it be that Jesus, the Living Word, wants to move into your neighborhood? Your healing can give you a voice you never had before. Will you use your voice to glorify God and tell others of God's love, mercy, and healing power? What about His saviing and keeping power? Think about it today! A special tribute to Jerry B. Walker in a future edition of Hugh's NewsNow is the time to prepare for the Special Edition of Hugh's News to render a fitting memorial honor to one of the world's greatest Pentecostdal/Charismatic evangelists. He was someone very special and the anointing of the Holy Spirit was upon him. He was a man who fasted and prayed and heard from God. He was prophetic in his preaching, and God performed many miracles during his years of effective ministry as an evangelist. I have a photo of his granite tombstone and bronze plaque with the epithat engraved on it. It is indeed an exclusinve photo that very few have ever seen or will see. You need to get your family and friends to go ahead and subscribe to Hugh's News so that will get this exclusive photo and tribute. I need your help. I ask that if you were blessed by his Jerry B. Walker's ministry that you write two or three sentences about him. Keep it brief, short, concise. I want to thank you in advance for your help! Bertha Gamble, a former missionary to Alaska, departed this life on Tuesday, July 1, 2008Bertha’s Glorious Sunset By: Jim Gamble (Written July 1, 2008, the night his wife Bertha passed on.) The silver cord of life has severed. Life’s race has now been run. Bertha has laid her armor down. Her ministry here is done. In peace and comfort she closed her eyes, to permit my grief to come. She is with our ever-loving God, where we will both call home. My God in love assuage my grief, your healing balm impart, and the reflected glow of sunset skies, warm my lonely heart. I know earth’s loss is heaven’s gain and Bertha I will greet, when earth with all its cares are past, and my journey here complete. May we each find that perfect peace, that Christ alone can bring, and hold while in the shadow of loss, a faith that still can sing. We are planning a service here at SunCoast to honor Bertha on July 12th at 10:00 am. I know many of you cannot come, but what is important is that you expressed your love while she was living. I love each of you. Thank you for your prayers. Hold fast to our Faith. Love Jim [Editor's note: I want to thank Deedee Springer for sending this announcement to me via e-mail. She had received it from my good friend in Orlando, FL, Stan Oliver. I have written Jim and expressed our love and sympathy for him in his significant loss. I have not heard from him. I am sure his plate is full. I got acquainted with Jim and Bertha Gamble in Alaska when I was a chaplain at Elmendorf AFB, in Acthorage. They were missionaries in Bethel, AK. They visited us in our home and chapel. I was able to provide Christian education suppies for the eskimos and we took a special Christma Offering for Jesus to help the children there in Bethel in our large Sunday school. Years later, when I was the third president of Southwestern college, now Southwestern Christian University, the Gambles were on the teaching staff. Jim was one of the best recruiters the college ever had. He was gifted in calling prospective students by phone and gettng them to make a decision to enroll. They were both invaluable people and always showed a spirit of humilty and grace. I have always dearly loved and respected them Although I do not have permisson, I will give you Jim's e-mail address anyway. I know he will be so grateful to hear from many of you.
