Lighten up with Laughter

A Sunday School teacher asked her class why Joseph and Mary took Jesus with them to Jerusalem. A small child replied, "They couldn't get a baby-sitter."

[Submitted by Mary Ruth Isaac Curlee of Virginia Beach, VA]

Scripture reading for today is recorded in Romans 10:9-10,13; 1John 1:9

"That if you shalt confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in your heart that God has raised Him
from the dead, you shalt be saved.

"For with the heart man believes unto righteousness;
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Editor's commentary on today's Scripture passage written in Romans 10:9-10, 13; 1 John 1:9

This special edition of Hugh's News is to win lost souls. In Daniel's prophecy we read this: "And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever" (Daniel 13:3).

Our mission here at Hugh's News is to tell you about everlasting life that can be yours today by placing your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

In Amos 4:12, we read these words, "Prepare to meet your God."

I have called on Charles Wilson, my former radio emcee when we had a live radio broadcast from Tarkenton Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church every Sunday evening to help me with this issue. We had a potential listening audience of 1,300,000 people living in five states: Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North and South Carolina. Charles is a super salesman and worked for Johnson and Johnson. That natural gift carried over into his spiritual gift of evangelism. It was a vital part of his entire being. You could hear it in the pathos of his voice as it traveled out over the ether waves of radio. He and his wife, Barbara, now reside in Johnson City, TN. Here is what Charles wrote for this special edition:

Our appeal is to those the Holy Spirit touches for repentance: From "Lost" to "Found."

There is an old hymn that says, "In times like these, one needs a Saviour."

These words are so appropriate for today. Jesus Christ is that Saviour. Just as He calmed the raging sea by saying, "Peace, be still," He can calm and satisfy the storm and turmoil that affects our lives and our world.

I encourage anyone who wants to have this peace in his/her heart to call on Jesus today, by just simply saying,

"Jesus, I am a sinner, I need a Saviour. Please forgive me of my sins and for leaving you out of my life. I invite you in to my heart to be my Saviour and Lord. Thank you for hearing my prayer and forgiving me of my sins."

If you sincerely mean this, you will find that Jesus will come into your life--change you into a new creation and you will desire to live for Him.

Eternal life is now yours; and you will be with Him FOREVER. Beginning right now! From "Lost" to "Found."

"LOST" a message / sermon by Leroy Baker

The Rev. Dr. Leroy Baker is a General Evangelist, IPHC Ministries; former Superintendent, Texas Conference (Grace Bible Ministries); Church Planter; Radio Speaker for the IPHC National Radio Broadcast; and Administrative Assistant, Evangelism USA; and Mr. Camp Meeting Preacher in the IPHC.

Scripture text: “The son of man has come to seek and save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).

Bible Study Reading:

Luke 15:8 Lost coin
Luke 15:11 Lost son
Genesis 25:34 Lost birthright
Genesis 1:27 Lost image
Genesis 2:17 Lost life – dying
2 Kings 6:5 Lost ax / found
Luke 15:4 Lost sheep

LOST on an uncharted island! Lost, the only survivor of an airplane crash with no hope of being found. Lost, in the high rocky mountains when a weekend hike is interrupted by an unexpected snowstorm, a trained outdoors man loses his direction and discovers he is lost. Lost, in a big city of millions of people, a total stranger with no map of the city.

One early morning as I rested in my recliner, my home was shaken by an explosion that caused me to leap to my feet, run outside and look into the sky for the cause. At that time I saw nothing, but later discovered the US space shuttle, Columbia, had exploded in the Texas sky over our house. All occupants of the shuttle were lost and only fragments were found scattered across the countryside.

Lost in time and space is a hopeless and desperate feeling, but to be lost in eternity without a second chance for discovery is total darkness. All mankind was lost, not in time and space, but lost in eternity. From the first man Adam, man has lost the image of his Creator (Genesis 1:27-2:17). Jesus came to seek, save, and restore the lost (Luke 19:10). Jesus taught us in His coming about the value of people to His Father (John 3:16). Jesus spent time to illustrate God’s eternal love searching for us like a woman searching for a lost coin (Luke 15:8), or a father searching for a lost son (Luke 15:11), and never giving up until they are found and restored.

Some people lose their ability to produce, like the worker in 2 Kings 6:5 who while cutting wood lost his borrowed axe in the river and could no longer work or pay his debts. He asked for help from God and was given a solution. It was a miracle! The Word was to throw a stick into the water and when he obeyed the Word of God the axe head began to swim and was restored to him.

Jesus also teaches us about a lost sheep who had been separated from the flock of a 100 sheepfold and the night had fallen. You and I are that lost sheep, but Jesus the Good Shepherd was willing to leave the 99 safe sheep and go out into the darkness to search for the lost sheep and restore him to safety (Luke 15:4).

The Word of God teaches us that by disobedience man lost everything: his life, his health, his dominion over creation, his peace, and most importantly the image of God. Without Christ man is dead in trespass and sin (Ephesians 2:1). Jesus Christ came and carried a stick, the old rugged cross, into our eternity to restore us by giving man the opportunity to receive the gift of God, which is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).

You are not lost, according to God’s promises. You are found by Jesus Christ, our Lord. Do you believe this? If you believe this? If you believe the promise of God in Jesus you are saved (Romans 10:9-10). Will you pray this simple prayer with me now? Come on along right now and pray, “Jesus, I believe You came to find me and forgive me, to save me and restore me to the image of God. I confess my sin and accept Your gift of life. Thank You Jesus for eternal life. Amen.”

[Editor's Note: This is one of the best sermons I've ever read about receiving Christ as Savior. It is clear, concise, comprehensive and complete. Brother Baker will be preaching the Camp Meeting of the Upper South Carolina Conference at their Beech Springs Camp Grounds, July13-16, 2008, Sunday night through Wednesday evenings. The morning services will be at 10 a. am. Sunday night at 6 p. m., and Monday -- Wednesday at 7:30 p. m. "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Battle Hymn of the Republic by Julia W. Howe

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
[originally …let us die to make men free]
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.
