Dr. Vernon E. Simpson died on Tuesday, February 12, 2008
Dr. Vernon E. Simpson, a former member of the General Board of Administration, passed away on February 12, 2008.
Dr. Simpson was a member of the Golden West Conference where his father served as a minister. Dr. Simpson served on the Planning and Budgetary Committee from 1985-1989. He then served the church from 1989 – 1993 as the Western Zone Lay Representative on the General Board of Administration. He was also a member of the Church Institution Board from 1989-1993.
Dr. Simpson was the founder and executive director of the Montclair College Preparatory School located in Van Nuys, California. It was founded in 1956 and is one of the oldest private, co-educational, independent, secondary schools in the San Fernando Valley. A rigorous college preparatory education is offered to students in grades six through twelve.
Dr. Simpson was a graduate of the University of South California (B.S. Biological Science and Psychology), California State University at Northridge (M.A. Secondary School Administration and Supervision), and completed his Ph. D. in Educational Psychology at UCLA and LAU. He holds a Life California Community College teaching credential allowing him to teach college level classes in psychology. In addition to high school teaching assignments, Dr. Simpson taught psychology at LaVerne College, Mount St. Mary’s College, and was currently teaching the Montclair senior psychology classes through Valley College.
Prior to founding Montclair College Preparatory School, Dr. Simpson served in the United States Navy, and taught biology, chemistry physics, general science, psychology, and physiology in both public and private schools. Dr. Simpson served with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges accrediting association for the past 27 years and has been the Chairman of Visiting Committees for the past 26 years.

Dr. Thurnace York, of Corprus Christi, TX, wrote the following:
Dr. Simpson was a most positive, creative man of God who helped everyone. His school produces top students who have accomplished great things in college and life. The school is upscale appealing to professonals who want the best for their teens, including the Hollywood actors' families.
He made a house of glass which hung off the side of a mountain so that one could see for miles toward the coast. He was a part of the famous "Dream Center" in Los Angeles, the Church on the Way, and a host of Pentecostal Holiness Churches in California.
When we were on our way to teach in China, he met Ethelyn and me at the LAX Airport and again when we returned we got together and dined. His beautiful wife, Monteene, will take his place to keep the businesses and work together. I thought you, Hugh, would want to know that this Man of God was rocked in the Pentecostal Holiness Cradle, now comforted in the Arms of Jesus.
A note of tribute from the Editor, Hugh H. Morgan
I knew Vernon Simpson at a distance. Over the years I have seen and talked with this dynamic and persuasive man at General Conferences, National Pastors Conference, Youth Quest, etc. He was always the same outgoing personality who seemed to love everyone.
He had the gift of encouragement and when I talked with him my spirit was always bolstered.
He attracted some of the brightest minds of our day. He was able to see great potential in youth, and he knew how to help them cultivate and train their minds and develop their talents and gifts. I had hoped that one of his assistants would have become a Navy chaplain.
This talented man will be greatly missed.
Will you receive the Benediction?
2 Samuel 3:38
"Do you not realize that a prince and a great man has fallen in Israel this day?
