Comissioned to Preach the Gospel and to Heal the Sick

Luke 4:16-21
He [Jesus] went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His custom. And He stood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it is written:

18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

20 Then He rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on Him, 21 and He began by saying to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
NIV

What a powerful picture we have our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Every thing Jesus did and said was through the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit. He said only what the Father said, and did only what the Father did.

We learn from the Apostle Paul's writing in Colossians that "Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him."
NIV

We, who are disciples of Jesus Christ are commissioned to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

With regard to preaching, the Apostle Paul explains it this way:

"The Word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved."

You can be saved or born again right now, by simply following the above instructions from the Bible.

14 How, then, can they call on the One they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the One of Whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
NIV

Not only are we to preach the kingdom of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we are to heal the sick.

I clearly see the mission is two-fold: preach the Gospel of the Kingdom and heal the sick.

We believe that healing is in the atonement. Jesus received stripes in his body for our healing.

The Apostle Peter tells us that we the stripes of Jesus we were healed.

1 Peter 2:23-24
Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness — by whose stripes you were healed.
NKJV

The prophet Isaiah wrote:

Isaiah 53:5
by His wounds we are healed.
NIV

Isa 53:5
and with His stripes we are healed.
KJV

I give voice to that Word, and declare your healing in the Name of Jesus based upon His written Word.

Here's a song I used in my daily radio broadcasts at prime time in Birmingham, Alabama entitled, "Rise and Be Healed in the Name of Jesus," over WNJC FM Christian Radio.

"Rise and Be Healed in the Name of Jesus"

Has fear and doubt come against your mind?
Has your faith been sorely tried?

Lift up your eyes. Here cometh your help.
It is Jesus, for you He hath died.

And if by faith, you reach out to Him.
He will meet your every need.

He will respond to the cry of your heart.
He will touch you and set you free.

Rise and be healed in the Name of Jesus.
Let faith arise in your soul.

Rise and be healed in the Name of Jesus.
He will cleanse and make you whole.

Rise and be healed in the Name of Jesus.
Let faith arise in your soul.

Rise and be healed in the Name of Jesus.
He will cleanse and make you whole.

He will cleanse and make you whole.
