Christopher Carnes, 26, of Atlanta died in his sleep--Grandson of Lonnie and Betty Rex

Lonnie and Betty Rex, of Spring, TX, received a call from their daughter, Tricia Rex Carnes and her husband, David, late Sunday afternoon. David and Tricia had been at church all morning and David gave a Piano Concert Sunday afternoon. When they finished, their youngest son, Patrick, called and informed them that Christopher, their oldest son, had died in his sleep.

Christopher had suffered with asthma for years. He was only 26 years of age.

The family is in shock and needs our prayers during this time of crisis and grief. Lonnie and Betty are making plans to drive to Atlanta from their lovely home in Spring, TX. Pray for traveling mercies and God's protection upon them, their car, and their safety.

Lonnie Rex Christopher Carnes' Memorial Service will be at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 850 Mt. Vernon Hwy NW, Sandy Spring, GA, Friday, October 22, at 1 p. m. This service will be a tribute to a great young man, and a loving son and grandson. Pray for his mother,Tricia, his dad, David and brother, Patrick. It is a very difficult time for the family.

[Ediitor's Note: Lonnie had sent me an e-mail which I read early Monday morning. I called and talked with Lonnie and later called David Carnes, Tricia's husband, to express our love, sympathy and prayers. We are reminded that death is no respector of persons, regardless of age. Our hearts go out to this wonderful family.

LaDonna Rex Scott, retired administrative assistant to the Presiding Bishop, whom most of you know, is the younger sister to Lonnie Rex. Their father was the late Robert L. Rex, a former Assistant General Superintendent and Vice Chairman of the IPHC, and exeuctive director of Evangelism USA and World Missions Ministries. He started the IPHC Extension Loan Fund and Lonnie purchased the first $100 bond at the insistence of his father.

I have known Lonnie and Betty Rex since 1954 when I played trombone in the Marine Band at Quantico, VA. I used to hitchhike to DC, to attend the National Pentecostal Holiness Church when Ray Stewart was the pastor and then Walter J. Nash.]
