Chaplain (LTC) Ken Godfrey ministered to personnel in Pentagon the day of the earthquake

It is encouraging to know that God is placing our IPHC military chaplains in strategic places at critical moments to bring compassion, loving care, and hope to people in need, as well as pray with them.

This scenario was true when the earthquake happened Tuesday afternoon, August 23, 2011.  Chaplain (Lieutenant Colonel) Ken Godfrey was in the Pentagon that day. Here is his account of the experience in his own words:

"I was in the Pentagon preparing for a future meeting with a 3 star general when the building rumbled and people wondered what was going on. I was in the same area where the plane attacked on 9/11.

"Some people were remembering what happened ten years ago because several people died in the area where I was standing. I was able to pray with a few people and offer comfort and a listening ear as individuals processed overlapping emotional events and responses.

When my boss and I returned to the office building in Crystal City our co-workers were all outside making contingency plans to get home early instead of going back inside. The building engineers had to check the stability of the building where our offices were. We had a group prayer of thanks to God for His divine protection, and for wisdom for engineers, workers, and leaders. Then we headed home."

Ken wrote that he got home a little before 5 o'clock to be with his wife, Karen, who had experienced the earthquake in their townhouse in Woodbridge, VA. Ken and Karen are a lovely couple and are a ministry team wherever they serve. We are so grateful for their leadership, service, and ministry to the soldiers wherever they may be. May God continue to bless them in the extensive ministries He is giving them.
