It was my privilege to preside over the Quadrennial Session of the Mississippi Conference this past weekend.
I was blessed to enjoy an excellent meal at a Japanese Steak House Friday evening with Bishop Glen Lafferty and his lovely wife, Jennifer. Randy Wilson, a conference Board member was kind enough to be my personal chauffeur
for the conference and also joined us for dinner along with his lovely wife, Amanda. We had a warm and edifying evening discussing the ministry and some humorous moments of our long-standing friendships.
The conference was hosted by the Lakeview Church outside of Meridian began with registration from 8:30 -9:00 A.M. and business at 9:00 A.M. The Quadrennial Session lasted until 1:15 P.M. with 80 in attendance and 63 registered delegates. The business was followed by a gracious luncheon in the Fellowship Hall of the host church, Lakeview. We express our special appreciation to pastor Richard Coates and his team of workers who did such an exceptional job of providing and serving the meal.
Bishop Glen Lafferty gave a heart-felt and heart-warming report on his 30 years of preaching ministry and his 17 years in conference leadership. He then announced that he would not allow his name for nomination to a second full term. He had assumed the office of Conference Bishop when former Bishop, Charles Miles, passed away suddenly. After serving the 2 remaining years of that term, Brother Lafferty was elected to his first full term as Conference Bishop in 2006. Having served a total of 6 years and serving as a full-time pastor concurrently, Brother Lafferty felt that the Conference was in a positive position for growth if someone could give full-time to it. Therefore, he chose not to serve again but rather focus on his church which has demanded more and more of his time.
The conference ordained three and received three into the conference as ordained transferees.
Ordained were:
Debra J. Hubner
Shawn Earles
Jeremiah P. Wilson
Transferred as Ordained Were:
Rick Lee
Ken Welch
Sheila Welch
The Conference elected the following:
Bishop – Rev. David Moore
Assistant Superintendent – Rev. Clyde Smith
Secretary / Treasurer – Rev. Walter Lafferty
Board Member – Rev. Randy Wilson
Board Member – Rev. Darrell Blankenship
Rev. David Moore and his wife, Jane, are originally from the Mississippi Conference and have served as career missionaries in recent years. They were mightily used of the Lord as Regional Missions Coordinators in Central America. We feel confident that God will continue to use Bishop David Moore as he and the strong leadership team the conference has put in place, lead the Mississippi Conference forward in the 21st Century. Join me as we lift them to the Lord for His favor and blessing!
