Auburn vs. Alabama Iron Bowl: Tigers Edge Out Crimson Tide 28-27

There is no rivalry in all of collegiate football like that between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers.

In the State of Alabama there is no middle ground, no sitting on the fence. You are either from 'Bama or the Auburn Tigers. I have good friends on both sides.

As for me, I make no bones about my allegiance and loyalty to the Crimson Tide. I always say, "Let the Tide Roll."

My interest in the Alabama football team goes all the way back to the 40s when the Alabama Crimson Tide played in the Rose Bowl. I listened to the game on radio when Harry Gilmer, an All-American halfback led the Tide to victory in the 1946 Rose Bowl over the University of Southern California. Harry Gilmer was a native of Birmingham and a football star at Woodlawn High School.

Harry Gilmer was an undersized tailback, but was an awesome talent to surprise opposing teams. He was noted for a one-of-a-kind leaping throwing style as accurate as it was unorthodox. All of us boys in grammar school learned how to run and leap in the air and hurl passes like Harry Gilmer.

Getting back to my story, this year's Iron Bowl was one of the most exciting games in history as the Auburn Tigers (12-0) edged out of the Alabama Crimson Tide (9-3) 28-27.

I was greatly disappointed, but I know it is just another game. However, the winner of this game always has bragging rights for the next year. Auburn fans will rub it in as we have during this past year with Alabama the National Football Champions.

I like the Georgia Bulldogs and Coach Mark Richt. I hope they beat Georgia Tech between the hedges in Athens today, Saturday, November 27, 2010. I will be watching in the comfort of my family room with my framily. We are all Georgia fans.
