Go to my website: www.hughsnews.com. Click on the blue rectangle that reads Sign up for the News.

Watch for another window to drop down. When it does, simply fill out the information that is requested, and send it. You will be registered. If you desire to give personal and spiritual information about yourself, you may do that by clicking on those words. That information is certainly optional. An electronically generated report is sent to me of everyone who registers to Hugh’s News

Enlightenment comes to the one who changes from the love of power . . . to the power of love.

R. T. Kendall writes, “We must renew our commitment to forgive others each and every day for the wrongs done to us. Forgiving ourselves is also a daily process.”

Scripture reading for today is recorded in 1 Corinthians 13:5,

“ . . . it keeps no record of wrongs” (NIV).

“Doesn't keep score of the sins of others” (The Message, Eugene H. Peterson).

Editor’s commentary on today’s Scripture written in 1 Corinthians 13:6

I am sure you are acquainted with the Love Chapter of the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13. It is one of the most powerful treatises ever written. We should read it often, and ask God to engrave it upon the tablets of our hearts. I need it, and I am confident that you do as well.

If we truly want to learn how to forgive ourselves and others this passage of Scripture can surely help us. If you want to experience total forgiveness in your life you will find it here. The centerpiece of this chapter may be discovered in verse 5, our Scripture text for today;  Love "keeps no record of wrongs" (NIV).

Oh, the power of love!

Dr. Hugh Holmes Morgan

In this new chapter that God is writing about this newsletter as it continues to serve IPHC ministries and the body of Christ worldwide, I want you, my readers, to know that I am committed to moving forward, to allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us into His future. I embrace these days with confidence, assurance and hope, knowing that He Who has called me to this exciting ministry is faithful for the Scripture says, “He Who calls you is faithful, Who also will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24, NKJV).

Relevant . . . Dynamic . . . Demonstrative – The vision God gave to Presiding Bishop Carpenter for the IPHC

Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr.
     Presiding Bishop

“While walking to the elevator” (the night he was to preach at the 26th General Conference in Greensboro, NC), Presiding Bishop Ronald W. Carpenter said, “I suddenly heard the gentle voice of the Lord whisper three words into my spirit: Relevant Dynamic Demonstrative. Immediately, I realized God had given me a simple vision for this denomination.”

Bishop Carpenter went on to say, “This vision was not born out of a board or committee meeting, but straight from the heart of God. These three words have become the marching orders by which I intend to serve over the next four years. My passion is to see the IPHC serve around the world in a ministry mode that is relevant, dynamic, and demonstrative.”

Hugh’s bride of 49+ years

“After several months of increasing pain in my back and down my legs, and after having an MRI that showed cysts and bad arthritis in my back, I finally was able to see a neurosurgeon today, Monday, November 2, 2009. The news is not what I wanted to hear.

“To make a long story short, Dr. John Cuff, one of the best neurosurgeons in the Southeast, says that I have deterioration in my lower back to the point that therapy, injections, pain therapy, and steroids will not help. He must do go in and clean out the damage affecting the last three (3) vertebra discs, and put in steel rods and titanium screws so I can have relief from constant pain.

“However, his surgery schedule is full and he cannot do the surgery for about two months. Also, he wanted me to really think about what I wanted to do. Meanwhile, he will keep me on a muscle relaxant and strong pain medication – gradually increasing the dosage so I can function somewhat normally until we can schedule surgery.

“I am asking that you, the readers of Hugh’s News, to please pray for me, and with me that I will be able to handle this road block in my life. I have been blessed with very good health, and I know God is healing me in His time and His way. He can even do a creative miracle. What a testimony that would be! Thank you for your prayers.”

an injured soldier in Taji, Iraq

Our IPHC active duty military chaplains go where our soldiers go. They are there when everything is going well, and when there is trouble and trials. The cross on the uniform of Chaplain Suk Kim is a visible reminder of the invisible God Who is always present with our men and women in uniform in harm’s way.

Our chaplains bring hope and comfort to those who are hurting, and help them to make sense of what’s happening in their world.

The Apostle Paul reminds us of this fact of life . . . "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5, NIV).

Chaplain Suk Kim’s wife, Eun, and three children: Yechan; Yeyoung; and Yekyoung are at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Pray for them.

You can count on the Air Force to be there where airmen go. In our Global environment our chaplains minister not only to members of their branch of service, but to other members of our Armed Forces, as well as from other nations. They are deployed for several months and leave wives and children at home. In the case of Chaplain Timothy Sessions, he left his beautiful bride, Courtney, at home. However, she is blessed to visit with her parents and family, and Tim’s mother and father. Remember Timothy and Courtney in your prayers. Courtney is the great granddaughter of G. F. Taylor, the founder of Emmanuel College.

Pike Named Dean Emeritus, SCU Graduate School

image
   Dr. Garnet Pike

After serving 17 years as dean of the Graduate School of Southwestern Christian University (SCU),

Dr. Garnet Pike retired August 1, 2009, and was named dean emeritus. He had served the institution a total of27 years.

Pike came to SCU (SCCM) in fall 1982 at the invitation of President Leroy Baker. He was appointed dean of the Graduate School in fall 1992, and the first class began in fall 1993, with Dr. Bobby Clinton as instructor. Two years later, 25 students received their degrees in the first graduating class.

With Pike’s retirement, John Chasteen, who had served as assistant dean, was appointed dean. Chasteen has completed his doctoral studies at Oral Roberts University and is a certified life coach. Before coming to SCU, he was superintendent of the Grace Bible Ministries Conference and a pastor in Texas.

[Editor’s Note: It was my distinct privilege to work with Dr. Garnet Pike with developing a curriculum that meets the educational requirements of the Department of Defense Instructions 1304.28, the Armed Forces Chaplains Board, and the Chiefs of Chaplains of the Army, Navy, and Air Force for a 72-semester hour graduate degree program.

For the first time in the history of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, we have our own graduate program that offers the Master of Ministry degree that is fully recognized.

I take this opportunity to say “thank you” to Dr. Pike, and I stand now at attention and give him my best Marine Corps salute.]

Will you receive the Benediction?

Romans 8:35-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:

"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
