The following message appeared on a church sign in England:

As you pass this little church,
be sure to plan a visit,
So when at last you are carried inside
God won’t ask “Who is this?”

Scripture reading for today is written in John 1:1-18

John 1:1-18
1:1 The Eternal Word

(Gen 1:1-2:3)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

6 John's Witness: The True Light

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 The Word Becomes Flesh

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said,'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.'"

16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
NKJV

Editor’s commentary on the Prologue of’ John’s Gospel, John 1:1-18

I am in the process of writing a chapter in a new book I am co-authoring with a West Point Graduate and a Vietnam Veteran who gave both legs in battle in defense of our great country. He is Allen Clark of Dallas, TX. The first chapter I am writing is entitled, “The Coming of God’s Son to Earth.” I am having to deal with a truth about the incarnate Word that is recorded by John in the prologue of his Gospel.

i am overwhelmed by the majesty of John’s opening statement about the eternal Word of God Whom we know as Jesus Christ. John wrote by revelation, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God” (John 1:1-2, KJV).

It was Augustine who said, “It is beyond the power of man to speak as John does in his prologue.” What is revealed here is without a doubt given to John by divine revelation. It is far more than my mind can grasp, but I accept it and believe it is the Word of God.

When God speaks He speaks through His Son, the Word. “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” The creation was a awesome moment. All of creation was called into existence by the Word of the Lord. The Scripture celebrates over and over again the power of God’s creative Word. Isaiah tell us, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void” Isaiah 55:11, NKJV).

In verses 11-13 in our Scripture reading for today, we discover how we, too, can become children of God by believing in Jesus. “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

You, too, may receive Jesus Christ this day by believing in His Name. We do that by accepting the fact that we are all sinners and cannot save ourselves. We must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for our sins, our forgiveness, and to give us eternal life. Confess Him today and you will be saved.

Paul wrote, “if thou [you] shalt confess with thy [your] mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt [shall] believe in thine [your] heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou [you] shalt [shall] be saved” (Romans 10:9, KJV).

There has never been a better time than today to make that decision to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. “Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2, KJV).

I trust that you will do that today. May God help you to make that decision and ask Jesus to save you and forgive you all of your sins.

Isaiah 55:6-7

6 Seek the LORD while He may be found;
call on Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way
and the evil man his thoughts.
Let him turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him,
and to our God, for He will freely pardon.
NIV

The Rev. Mr. Bill Mayo, Sr. was promoted to heaven on Tuesday, June 23, 2009

The Reverend Mr. Bill Mayo, Sr. passed from this life to the next, on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 12:12 p. m., at his home in Elizabeth City, NC. His battle with cancer finally came to an end when he was promoted to heaven and received his ultimate healing.

William Allen Mayo, Sr. was born to William Lee Mayo, Jr. and Margaret Allen Mayo on March 3, 1945, in Jacksonville, North Carolina.  His father, William Lee, his brother, Tom, and granddaughter, Naomi Grace, preceded him in death.  He is survived by his mother, Margaret Mayo; his wife of 41 years, Sylvia Julian Mayo; three children and their spouses, Allen Mayo and wife, Debbie; Scott Mayo and wife, Robin; Krista Mayo Overman and husband, Chet; and six grandchildren, Hayli, Zachary, Heidi, Julianne, Nathan and Kaylyn; a brother, Dr. David Mayo and wife, Loretta; and four nieces and two nephews.  He was an ordained minister of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, serving in the pastorate for 26 years and 14 years in conference leadership.  His love for God, his amazing knowledge of the Word and his astounding wisdom has left us a great legacy.  He will be missed, not only by his family, but by all those who knew him.

Pastor Mayo was saved and sanctified at the Glenrock PHC, February, 1967,and later, filled with the Holy Spirit in 1973. He received his Minister's License in 1976, in Portsmouth, VA. with the Eastern Virginia Conference and was ordained in 1979, in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. Reverend Mayo pastored four churches, including: Appomattox PHC, Appomattox, VA (1976 - 1978); National PHC, Oxen Hill, MD (1978- 1983); New Life PHC, Chesapeake, VA (1990 - 1994); and Fountain of Life PHC, Elizabeth City, NC (1994 - 2009). Pastor Mayo also served as Conference Superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference (1983 - 1990), and as Conference Evangelism Director for the Eastern Virginia/Redemption Ministries Conference (1999 - 2006), as well as serving on numerous boards and committees for the denomination. The International Pentecostal Holiness Church, both its ministers and members, are deeply indebted to the life and legacy of Reverend Bill Mayo, Sr.

The funeral will be held at Fountain of Life Church which is located at 1107 US 17 South, Elizabeth City, NC 27907, on Friday, June 26, 2009, at 1 p. m.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 25th, from 7 p. m. to 8:30 p. m. at the Fountain of Life Church. Following the funeral, the graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk, VA.

All licensed and ordained ministers attending the funeral will be requested to sit in a reserved section in honor of a fellow minister of the Gospel, who has been promoted to receive their heavenly reward.  In the words of Pastor Mayo, in his last statement to the congregation, "Paul told us to we are to fight the good fight of faith and we don't always know what valley that battle may take us to, but we know that our Commander-in-Chief never leaves us nor forsakes us and He will see us through."

The Mayo family and congregation of Fountain of Life Church, wish to express appreciation to everyone for their outpouring of love and prayers during this challenging journey of faith. You may send cards to the Mayo residence at the following address:

Sylvia Julian Mayo
125 Spence Drive
Hertford, NC  27944

[Editor’s note: I have been privilege to know Bill Mayo for many years. He and I, as well as his father, William Mayo, participated in performing the wedding ceremony for Scott and Robin Mayo when I was pastor at the Richmond First Pentecostal Holiness Church. I considered Bill to be a servant leader in our denomination, a loving husband and father, and an exceptional pastor and conference leader. He will be greatly missed and we mourn his death. However, we do rejoice that he has made it to his heavenly home to live eternally with the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us remember this outstanding family in our prayers.]

Greenville, SC: Redemption World Outreach Center’s innovative family fitness and community outreach facility is a new fitness center in the Upstate designed to transform both the physical and emotional wellness of its members by providing world class fitness amenities in an environment of community and support.

“This facility is nothing like this city has ever seen. I believe we have an opportunity to impact our city together on a greater level than we’ve ever impacted before. When you find the need, you find the call,” said RWOC Senior Pastor Ron Carpenter.  “Imagine a first-class, affordable fitness facility that also helps reduce crime, takes kids off the streets, offers midnight basketball, helps restore and renew bodies and families no matter what level of life people are on. Buildings never fix things, but they can facilitate the programs and ministries to grow people. I’ll never use people to build buildings, but we’ll forever use buildings to build people.”

With exceptional facilities including three all wood collegiate basketball courts, a suspended indoor track, free weight areas, women’s only fitness area, spinning, yoga and other aerobic classes and even a café offering healthy meals all day long, the Imagine Center offers the best and most up to date equipment and facilities for the members’ health and fitness experience. The Imagine Center also offers a variety of activities and community outreach programs, such as midnight basketball that will give children from the inner city a place to go and be active in a positive environment. There are also family seminars and classes offered about nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

Additional services of free clinics, health seminars with local experts, and an exceptional staff of personal trainers sets the Imagine Center apart from a traditional fitness center. The facility’s strong commitment to the community allows the Imagine Center to be a place for its members to develop lifelong wellness habits and connections with others.

This facility has created 40+ new jobs for aspiring personal trainers, health and fitness instructors, sales associates and administrative staff in the Upstate, and has partnered with many area businesses to give back and benefit the community as much as possible. The Imagine Center partnered with one of the leading personal training organizations in the Upstate, Kephart 180 Fitness. “The Imagine Center will serve as the Upstate’s most unique fitness and wellness facility with services and programs for every walk of life. So, whether you are looking to lose a few pounds, excel in your sport of choice, rehab injuries, or to develop your self-confidence again, our team of fitness and health professionals are ready to assist and motivate you,” said Kephart.

Profits from the IMAGINE Center, unlike any other fitness facility in the region, are put directly back into Upstate community development, inner city outreach, job connection services, teen impact, crime prevention, small business startup initiatives, and other community programs focused on improving quality of life right here at home.

For more information on job openings, personal or corporate memberships and more, please contact Shawn Kephart, Facility Director @ 864-420-2992 or skephart@rwoc.org.

[Editor’s Note: I want to thank Missy Nowack for the news release. However, two other key people at Redemption World Outreach Center in Greenville, SC, helped me with this story, Carroll Liddie, and Cullie March. I always rejoice in the success God gives to others. I hope you, too, will rejoice with Pastor Ron Carpenter, Jr., and his great congregation of over 14,000 members, that God has granted them favor and success to get this new physical fitness center to bless countless thousands of lives in the Greenville, SC, known as Upstate South Carolina, and provide jobs and ministries for many of their church members. I have been told that this new facility cost six million dollars.]

An updated, revised Bio for Hugh Morgan – check website, www.hughsnews.com

Hugh has finally completed an updated, revised Bio. Go to our website, www.hughsnews.com and look under Bio. There is not only the Bio there but a photo of Hugh in his office at work in sport clothes. His office is very humble, and is over his garage. He finally purchased a window unit air conditioner after more than 10 years of suffering during the summer months from the heat up near the roof. It was through the contributions of subscribers to Hugh’s News, Inc. that the air conditioner was finally purchased and installed. Thank you for giving to Hugh’s News, Inc.

Salvation is free; but, it takes money to pay the bills for the publication of Hugh’s News

Dr. Vinson Synan, church historian and former Assistant General Superintendent of the IPHC, as well as the former Dean of the School of Divinity at Regent University, says, "No church in the world has been blessed by such a wonderful ministry of family news as the IPHC.

“Hugh Morgan has pioneered a new form of journalism that goes far beyond mere blogging. His news is a unique ministry to the church family. I never fail to read Hugh's News. He keeps me up-to-date on my lifetime friends in the church. He is a real friend to us all."

I have had a few people to ask this question, “Why do you need any money to produce Hugh’s News?”

I am glad that question is sometimes asked. Let me try to explain to the best of my ability.

It is amazing to learn what the costs are for this electronic news service. There are the monthly costs for our webmaster, web design and maintenance, host services, the distribution costs for mass mailings of the newsletter, the online costs for high speed Internet service, telephone and fax services, office supplies, backup costs to protect our files, a monthly fee for merchant banking for the use of credit cards, consulting fees, and the purchase of new equipment. Then, there are times when I need my webmaster, a computer genius, to clear up the problems I often encounter in the process of my work. That costs money, too!

The plan to meet our financial obligations

In order to meet these financial expenses, I am asking that every reader consider making at least two contributions to this news service each year as God may direct you. Some may want to contribute monthly. That decision is yours.

There are two methods of giving to help support this ministry:

1.  Checks or money orders

2.  Credit cards

When giving by check, please make out your checks to Hugh’s News, Inc.

Your contributions are tax deductible. Hugh’s News, Inc. is incorporated with the Georgia Secretary of State, and we have a 501 (C) (3) Tax Exempt Status with the IRS.

Please send checks or money orders to:

Hugh’s News. Inc.
17 Sweet Apple Lane
Winder, GA 30680

Credit Cards

If you would like to contribute to this ministry with a credit card, our bank has established this option for you. Most credit cards will be accepted. All you have to do is just click on the word DONATE and it will automatically take you to our website where you can do that now on a secure line directly to our bank. Every gift, regardless of its size is important to us, and will be greatly appreciated.

Together, we can provide an electronic newsletter with information you will not get anywhere else. Most importantly, we can continue to provide reliable, Bible-centered, and Christ-centered teaching that can transform the lives of those who desperately need to read and hear the Gospel.

May everything good thing from God our heavenly Father be yours and your family in 2009.

Will you receive the Benediction?

“Whoever you are,
Wherever you wander in God’s wide world,
Whatever happens to you for good or ill,
Remember that Jesus is still Lord.”
