A tribute to Jerry B. Walker by Bishop Gary Burd, Great Plains Conference

Dr. Jerry B. Walker has a special place in the history of Christian Heritage Church, Amarillo, TX. He preached the dedication service of a new building in the early 1960s, and then in the late 1980s, he came to our church once again. I was the senior pastor when he came the second time. Our church was on the verge of a breakthrough–moving from our sanctuary to the gymnasium. He came–our people saw the gymnasium fill –watched as God moved through people–it ignited a hope in a church of broken people that is still carrying on today. Even though he carried himself so stately–he connected with a group of broken men and women and gave them hope. We will forever be indebted to the work of the Lord through this wonderful man of God.

I saw him while at the African-American Conference in Houston last year–he asked me about returning to Amarillo–even though he does not ride a motorcycle. Once again he connected with my heart–we will miss the thought of not having Dr. Jerry B. Walker in our midst, but know the heavens are rejoicing–first class!
