A tribute to Jerry B. Walker by Barbara Tengan, Pastor of the Door of Faith Church on Maui, Hawaii

Rev. Jerry Walker was a guest in our home and ministered in our church while I was away attending Emmanuel College in the early 1960s. When he returned to the Mainland and passed through Georgia, I was quite honored that he made a special effort to meet me.

My parents and our congregation loved him dearly. He was a dear friend of Rev. Mildred Johnson Brostek, too, and they had a mutual love and respect for each other.

He was outstandingly unique, caring and anointed. The only time I heard him preach was when I was visiting the Maiden NC Pentecostal Holiness Church and he dramatized the Three Hebrew Children in the fiery furnace. He pulled out some reluctant "actors" from the congregation, threw them in the "fiery furnace" (an adjoining room to the platform) and then later marched them out.

He did dramatic things, not to attract attention to himself, but to make a spiritual point which otherwise might be missed.

He will be sorely missed because there is no one quite like him. But, I can see him entering heaven, not only greeted with a big "Well done" from the Lord, but with a lot of tears and laughter from his colleagues and converts. I thank the Lord for the privilege of meeting a great man of God like Dr. Walker.

Thank you, once again, Dr. Morgan, for keeping us informed.

My love and prayers,

Barbara Tengan
