There's a Biblical principle that with God's help, one can put 1,000 (enemies) to flight, but two can put 10,000. With cooperation, the power increases exponentially. So it is with the church body when we unite. We call it the corporate anointing - the presence of God upon His people collectively --and tapping into it is how we leverage our impact for good. You might not move that mountain by yourself, but together we can change lives and even the world.
In Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost, 120 disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues and glorify God in the streets. They were not isolated when this outpouring happened but were together, united in prayer. And with the 120 backing him up, Peter preached, and 3,000 Jewish people believed in Jesus! As we come together and let the Spirit flow, more and more people will believe. Later, when Peter was sentenced to death for preaching, the whole church prayed for his life. An angel delivered Peter, and the event served as an undeniable witness to the authorities that had condemned him. The corporate anointing can give our leaders today a witness of God's power, too.
So how do we access the corporate anointing? During services here, we often pray for individual needs at the altar. With the congregation pulling together, we see God do many miracles in people's lives. From time to time, God also gives us large-scale prayer assignments on local and national issues. From changing the path of a hurricane to praying for the safety of our city--we've seen the hand of God move. Once, we held a spontaneous all-night prayer meeting supporting US troops and later learned it was the night our nation entered the Iraq War. Of course, we have no influence on our own in these arenas, but the corporate anointing gives us power.
Peter calls each believer a living stone being built up with others to become a spiritual house capable of bringing glory to God. When I was a home builder, I made sure to choose quality bricks that would strengthen the structure. To the .degree that we each grow in our individual anointings and stand together in unity, the corporate anointing here is enhanced. In these last days, let's see ourselves as part of a greater body with greater power doing the greater works to which Jesus has called us.
Message by Pastor John Greiner, Glorious Way Church, 11611 Champion Forest Drive,
Houston, TX 77066. Telephone: 281.580.8806
Let me introduce you to Pastor John Greiner.
This native Texan holds nothing back, whether he's ministering to his own flock or to pastors in other nations. His desire is to live on the forefront of the move of God and to bring others into His fullness with miracles of healing and provision.
John Greiner was born again at age of 33. He and his wife, Gladys, grew under the ministry of the Rev. Dr. John Osteen, and were eventually ordained by him, serving as ministers in the church. In 1995, after much prayer and consultation with Dr. Osteen, the Greiners laid down their 25-year home building career and founded Glorious Way Church in Northwest Houston.
Today, his business background shows in his ministry, and he's not afraid to use practical illustrations from real-world experience. Greiner travels internationally, encouraging local church leaders and helps reach the lost with the gospel. In 2008, Greiner founded Global Aid Partnership. Already the Christian-based group has distributed more than $12 million worth of goods, bringing the tangible love of God to the world’s poor. He holds a Doctor of Humane Letters from Becket Theological Institute, is cited for ministerial accomplishment in the Heritage Registry of Who’s Who, and has been named by the IBC Leading Educators of the World. He gives his all to bring others into their promised land.
Pastor John and Gladys are joined in ministry by their two children and their families
[Editor's Note: My good friend Lonnie Rex introduced me to Pastor John Greiner a few years ago when I was in Houston. He and I bonded at that first meeting, and I was greatly impressed by what God has done in the life and ministry of this man of God and his wife, Gladys. John and Gladys are Pentecostal/Charismatics and flow in the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
Their church buildings are actual modern tents used by our military in the deserts of Kuwait and Iraq. Their tents have stood up under to powerful hurricane and were still standing when the winds stopped.
I was privileged to attend a worship service and from the moment I stepped on the campus I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. It is one of the most highly organized churches I have ever attended. You can't walk three feet without being greeting by church leaders and the congregation. The singing, praise, and worship is all designed to give adoration, honor and glory to God. And when John Greiner preaches you know he has been in the presence of God with many hours in prayer and study.
Whenever you are in Houston, consider attending a worship serive on Sunday morning or evening, or on Wednesday night. You will be blessed.
