Funeral Arrangements and Obituary for the Rev. Mr. O. N. Todd, Jr.

The Rev. Mr. O. N. Todd, Jr., age 93 of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Golden Living in Riverchase, Alabama, near Hoover, Alabama.

Rev. Todd was Pastor Emeritus of The Lord’s Chapel in Gardendale.

Brother Todd was the senior pastor of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Birmingham for 25 years, and senior pastor of Lord's Chapel for 25 years.

He was the General Supervisor of Asia in the early 1970s for the World Missions Ministries of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church for 3 or 4 years. He and Lois lived in Seoul, Korea. He had wanted to go to Nigeria, but that door was apparently closed, and another door was opened for him and Lois to serve in Southeast Asia.

As a young man, O. N. Todd served with honor and distinction in the United States Navy for 2 1/2 years. He was the lead Baritone Soloist for the Blue Jacket Choir at Great Lakes Naval Base.

O. N. served as a Civil Air Patrol Chaplain and became the Wing Chaplain of Alabama with the rank of Colonel. He was a skilled pilot and enjoyed his ministry to the cadets of the Civil Air Patrol, as well as his relationship with the chaplains.

O. N. Todd served on the committee that produced the Pentecostal Holiness Church Hymnal called The Gospel Hymnal. Here is a listing of members of that committee: O. N. Todd, Jr., Charles Presley, Madeline S. Atkins, and Lonnie Royce Rex. The Gospel Hymnal was copyrighted in 1973, by Advocate Press (now LifeSprings Resources). It had 439 pages, not including the Responsive Readings and Index.

His wife, Lois; his Father, Rev. O. N. Todd, Sr. and his Mother, Irene Stuckey Todd preceded him in death. Survivors include his sons: O. N. Todd, III and wife Brenda, and Roy S. Todd and wife Betty; grandchildren: Steven N. Todd, Olney N. Todd, IV and wife Amy, Jonathan L. Todd and wife Lindsay, Kevin W. Todd and wife Ashley and Greg B. Todd and wife Shannon; great grandchildren: Montgomery Lee, Peyton, Weston and Simms Todd, Maggie, Sam and Anna Todd, Skylar and Grace Todd, Dalton and Greyson Todd.

His funeral service will be held at 1 p. m. Friday, July 29, 2011, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 11 a. m. until service time at the funeral home.

Officiating ministers will be: Joel S. McGraw; Homer Stewart; Ed Spruel, and Harold Kelley.
